Menhirs and Antas (Dolmens)Traces of menhirs and antas (dolmens) in this region are a testemony of the human presence at the end of the Neolitic and begining of the Chalcolithic (circa 4000 years b.C.). Alcoutim origins must date to this time, when a Celtiberian tribe settled in. In the begining of the second century b.C. it was occupied by the Romans, who gave it the name of Alcoutinium. In 415 it was conquered by the Alans, and a century later by the Visigods
