
The cuisine of Alcoutim and its council relates to the hills and its wide areas featuring meat dishes such as lamb, pork, rabbit, grouse and boar during the hunting season.
But one can do a meal just with home made wine and bread baked int the old wood ovens, olives, ham, sausage and goat or sheep cheeses, prepared according to secular recipes.
By the Guadiana the menu is richer including several kinds of fresh fish grilled on coal.

Local traditional sweets of ancient recipes seduce those with a sweet tooth including among others the famous "nougado" made with almond and honey, well known all over the Algarve.
As a digestive, nothing better than a glass of fig brandy or "medronho aguardente", carefully destiled in copper stills at the hill vilages.
